lWalking in North Yorkshire
- Always follow the Countryside Code
- North Yorkshire has some of the best walking areas in the UK. Especially, The dales, The Pennines, The North Yorkshire Moors, The Coast, & the low lying areas such as The Vale of York for the less enegetic.
- In the upland areas you will find walks suitable for all grade of walkers from famillies with babies, toddlers, children up to the most adventurous and skilled walkers.
- Always be prepared for a change in the weather,. Rain, cold, snow 7 low clouds or mist can be killers.
- Have suitable, - clothes, warm, windproof & waterproofs, -strong footware or hiking boots.
- A waterproof Backpack, or water proof cover for it.
- Equipment, Compass, map with clear waterproof cover,. These can be a backup for modern electronic navigational aids., mobile phones with maps, GPS maps. Whistle, Fist Aid.
- Sun Block cream & sun hat. On higher ground the suns rays are much stronger due to the more rarified air, & there is often no shade.
Walkers & Dogs
- Always keep dogs under control and in sight & on a lead near animals.
- Remember: Dogs love chasing animals, don't let it happen.
- If a dog worries sheep by attacking or killing them or chases sheep in a way that may cause injury, suffering or financial loss to their owner, the person in charge of that dog is guilty of an offence. The penalty for this offence is a fine of up to £1,000.
- Dog poo – bag it and bin it – any public waste bin will do
