The family run Ciao Bella Italian Restaurant has recently opened near Brewery Wharf in Leeds. First Floor Grill opened for business, specialising in prime locally-sourced steaks. Although the Grill has a New York decor the food is very much British. The Jones family from West Yorkshire run the business sourcing local steaks, as opposed to the many ‘Argentinean’ steakhouses that you usually find around Leeds City Centre.

With its atmospheric lighting, chandelier fixtures, dark oak furnishings and padded leather seats, the restaurant has a luxurious and relaxing ambience which could see you happily whiling away a few hours in its surroundings. The impressive open kitchen is all exposed brickwork and glossy chrome, and given that downstairs takes its bar selection very seriously, it is a given that the drinks menu allows you to take your pick of page after page of cocktails, dozens of wines and several champagnes. Or if you just fancy a cold bottled beer, they do those too.

There is a mouth-watering range of dishes to choose from, not all of the beefy variety, and the menu offers a fine selection of starters. The tempura tiger prawns (£6.50) are deliciously spiced and battered, and come with a decidedly moreish sweet chilli dipping sauce. The mussels mariniere (£6.50), brought over in a steaming ceramic pot, are swimming in the garlic and white wine sauce which is mercifully soaked up by the accompanying crusty bread. Both portions are enough to satisfy until the next course, but not so ample that the anticipation of the main event isn’t justified.

The steaks are served up on wooden blocks and flanked by perfectly crisp onion rings, juicy tomato and succulent mushrooms. The menu states that three breeds of meat are always kept in stock, but the waiter informs us that just two will be available during this early stage, to test the waters. Nevertheless, there are no complaints about the Hereford Cross sirloin (£17.50) in a delectable red wine jus, and the Highland Cattle fillet (£22.50) in a hearty and flavoursome peppercorn sauce.

You can dress your steak to suit your taste, from a choice of six sauces. Steaks can also be upgraded by 100g for an extra £4.50-9.90, but we choose not to go for too much of a good thing and instead enjoy sides of tasty truffle chips, a manageable square of garlic and rosemary dauphinoise, and buttered broccoli to offset all the carbs (all sides are £3).
The beef is served medium as requested, striking just the right balance between tender and firm. Both are juicy morsels of expertly-handled perfection.

From the minute you ascend First Floor Grill’s stairs, you are graciously welcomed with service that is friendly yet non-intrusive and professional, and ushered into a lavish yet comfortable environment. The cuisine is faultless and the prices are fair for the quality and freshness of the ingredients. You may leave with little inclination for dancing the remainder of the night away, but you will be perfectly located for continuing to lounge around sumptuous venues sampling a rainbow of sophisticated drinks.

The Safran Restaurant is a hidden treasure of a restaurant serving Persian cuisine that has excellent taste. Yo! Sushi is a modern Sushi bar. You can choose from sitting at a table or at the central bar.  The sushi dishes are transported around the bar on a belt set into the bar top. If you fancy a dish take it off the belt. The dishes are price colour coded.

The dishes are snack sized so you would require about 3 to make up a meal. In my opinion this is an ideal venue if you have never tried sushi
